Ten Years of Corporate Career Girl. Here’s What I’ve Learned

I started CCG after going through my own difficult experience in the corporate world. At the time, I did not have the language for what was happening. I just knew something felt wrong, and I knew how lonely that can feel when you are trying to stay professional, keep going and make sense of it all quietly.

But over time, this platform became much bigger than my story.

It became a space for every woman who has ever sat at her desk knowing something was off but not knowing how to name it. Every woman who has questioned herself before questioning the environment. Every woman who has wondered if she was being too sensitive, too emotional, too ambitious, too much. You are not alone. That has always been the heartbeat of this community.

Ten years of conversations with women across industries have shown me the same thing again and again: women do not lack talent, ambition or resilience. What they often need is clarity, confidence and a space that understands the emotional reality of navigating a career.

That is what CCG has always been here for.

And this next chapter is more committed to that than ever. And because ten years feels like the right moment to reflect…

Here are ten things this journey has genuinely taught me, about careers, workplaces, people and myself.

01. Detach quickly

Your feelings are valid. But acting from them at work will cost you every time. Feel it, process it privately, then decide your next move from a clear head — not a hurt one.

02. Quick to listen. Slow to speak

The most powerful people in any room are rarely the loudest. Observe before you react. You will always make better decisions with more information.

03. Don’t take it personally, even when it is

Some people’s behaviour at work has nothing to do with you. Even when it does, taking it personally gives them a kind of power they haven’t earned.

04. Hard work alone is not enough

You can be the most talented, most prepared person in the room and still be overlooked. Visibility is a skill. Speak up. Show your expertise. Make sure the right people know what you’re building.

05. Work smarter, not just harder

Effort without strategy is just exhaustion. Know which tasks actually move the needle and which ones just make you feel busy. It’s about working smarter and not harder.

06. Ask what every hard season is teaching you

Every difficult situation has something in it. What is this building in me? What strength am I developing that I didn’t have before? That question changes how you carry hard things.

07. Being a working mother will require you to redefine success

What productivity looks like. What a good day means. What balance actually is for your life specifically. Give yourself full permission to do that on your own terms.

08. Your relationships are your career infrastructure

Build them before you need them. The people who know your work and your character are your most valuable professional asset, more than any qualification.

09. The tools are changing. Keep up

AI is not going to replace you. But someone who knows how to use it might. Stay curious. Stay sharp. Learn what makes you more effective.

10. Never stop learning. Own your expertise

The workplace is always evolving and the people who stay relevant are the ones who stay curious. Commit to continuously developing your skills. Pick one area in your field and master it. Become the person people come to for that thing. Expertise builds credibility, and credibility builds visibility.

Ten years ago I built this space because I needed it and I knew I wasn’t the only one. That hasn’t changed.
