Being a Christian career girl in the workplace is a blessing and something to be proud of. However, that does not mean that being a Christian at work does not come with its challenges.

Sometimes it comes with religious prejudice that may lead to people treating you differently because of your faith and beliefs. And other times, it comes with the fear of not being accepted or fully understood for what you stand for.

So how can you be bold and thrive in the workplace while remaining true to your faith?

Here are a few ways you can thrive at work as a Christian career girl:

Keep God at the centre

We often talk about the importance of having God at the centre of our lives. But do we always remember to involve Him in every area of our lives?

One area where we may overlook the importance of God’s guidance sometimes is our jobs. The truth is when we keep God out of certain aspects or areas in our lives, it becomes very challenging to thrive in those areas. This includes our work life too.

God placed you in your job for a reason, and if you want to discover the amazing things He has in store for you in that place, you’ll need to seek His guidance. One of the ways to thrive at your workplace is to keep God at the centre of your job.

So, take some time to pray for your job, your colleagues, your managers, and the challenges you may experience on a day-to-day basis. You are called to be God’s instrument in the world, and that includes your workplace too.

Understand that you won’t fit in

One thing you should remember is that it’s totally okay if you don’t fit in at work. In fact, as a Christian girl, you’re not meant to blend in with the crowd.

Your uniqueness should shine through in everything you do. If your colleagues tend to gossip or do things that don’t align with your values, you don’t have to join in. It’s not about being better than anyone, it’s about prioritising your relationship with God over the desire to fit in.

Of course, it’s not always easy to be the odd one out. It can feel lonely and tough to deal with, but trust me, it’s worth it.

Lead with compassion

Another way to thrive as a Christian career girl is to lead by example, but of course, with a lot of compassion. Others may not understand your faith or your values and that’s okay. We shouldn’t judge others for living life differently. Instead, we should show compassion, walk in love and lead by example in all things. If possible, always seek to be at peace with your colleagues, managers and everyone else at your workplace.

Work as unto the Lord

Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters

To work as unto the Lord means to do your job as if you’re doing it for God. It’s important to take every task that has been assigned to you seriously. Strive to work with excellence. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make mistakes. You’re only human. However, whether you love your job… or not, always make sure you give it your very best. It’s about working with integrity and always doing what’s right even when you think no one’s watching… because God actually is.
