Change, a simple six letter word, but still one of the most challenging things to get used to. Every day we are faced with the decision to allow change to take place in our lives, career and business, whether we realise it or not. From changing our habits to trying out a different work routine, to implementing a new goal or strategy.
Change is one of the most crucial things in the life of every human being, in fact, every organism. If we don’t learn how to adapt to change, we don’t grow, we don’t progress, and we eventually rob ourselves of becoming the best version of ourselves.
Even in our careers and the corporate workplace, change plays a vital role. According to research, conducted in 2015 by LinkedIn, the majority of people don’t change or switch jobs because of their boss or money. People switch jobs because of lack of ‘change’ and career advancement. 45% of job seekers left their job because of the lack of career opportunities.
How To Deal With ‘Uncomfortable’ Change
So yes, change is good, however, change is not always that easy to accept or adapt to. I mean how annoying is it when someone replaces something you have had at the same place for years? Now you have to spend time looking for it too! Even though change is good for us, change can be very uncomfortable and quite challenging to deal with. Here are five reasons why change is important and why you should learn how to embrace it:
1. Change Produces Growth And Personal Development
If we really have to choose between change or having things just the way it has always been, many of us will shy away from change, no matter how small or big it is. However, if you think about it from a physical aspect, how weird would it be if our bodies never changed? If we never grew taller or even if our hair always remained at the same length? – So not only is physical growth important. Our mental and emotional growth, basically, our personal development as individuals is needed even more.
2. Change Gives You A New Vision And Perspective
Change comes with new ideas and new perspectives on things in life, your career or business. Sometimes you just need to learn how to see things from a different angle in order to progress or make things happen for you.
On January 1st 2018, we implemented a big change to this platform as we rebranded from IAMICareer to Corporate Career Girl. For us, this was a strategic change in our vision as a growing career platform. We realised that change was necessary in order to expand our brand and reach and inspire more career girls.
3. Change Leads To New Opportunities
Change opens doors to new opportunities and experiences. For example, recognising that you are not growing in your current job role and taking the chance to change careers can lead to so many big career opportunities. Also, adapting to change in your career could mean taking on new projects, accepting bigger responsibilities and getting out of your comfort zone.
4. Change Keeps Your Life Or Career Exciting
This point basically ties in with point number 3. Can you imagine how boring it would be working at the same job and doing the same thing for many, many years? Even if you work at the same company for a long period of time, having changes in your job role or even moving up the corporate ladder is necessary in order to keep your work and life exciting. It’s good to change up your daily work routine as well. If you always walk the same route to work, why not try a different route once in a while?
5. Change Is Inevitable
Truth be told, learning how to embrace change should be one of our number one goals in life. Because change is going to happen anyway. Whether we like it or not, (as Tupac’s track ‘Changes’ would say) “that’s just the way it is, things will never be the same”. Change is integral to your personal development and growth. Even the world is changing every single day. With new technology, developments and tools coming up, the world is becoming more innovative.
Yes, change can be scary, however, whether it is easy or difficult to accept all depends on how you and I choose to embrace it.
